When did you begin designing art?
When I was young, like maybe 15. Because it was enjoyable to do, and it wasn’t really what a lot of people I knew did at that time - doing art at home in your own time not just in school.
What inspires your creations?
Cartoons and people’s feelings. Colour, music and just life really.
There is a great pop art concept to your work. What is the inspiration for this?
Because there is a lot of colour to pop art. I’m addicted to colour and bright things. It’s really eye-catching. And it attracts the girls!
There are a few famous faces in your art work, such as Rick Ross and 2Pac, why so?
The 2Pac thing is because when I was younger a lot of people said I look like him, hence the name Ash Shakur (2Pac’s full name is Tupac Amaru Shakur). And Rick Ross is a character that I am developing to add to my collection of characters. There will be many more famous faces to come, such as Andre 3000, Michael Jackson and more. Stay tuned.
You have previously dipped into designing apparel. Can we hope to see more?
I collaborated with my friend’s clothing line NBH, and it was very very very very cool because we collaborated on caps - and the theme was things that people hated and disliked. Unfortunately, we didn’t really get it out there. They were a bunch of cool caps though.
I had an old clothing collection of my own before, called Astar Clothing, when I was 16, but it wasn’t too serious. Some jumpers, sweatshirts and t-shirts. One t-shirt which had, what I like to call, my famous clouds on it and Queen Elizabeth wearing sunglasses. Some jumpers which had quotes on it, one of them saying ‘It’s Simple’.
Yeah, I would like to design some more apparel, based more upon headwear and footwear, working collaboratively with different brands. And of course, t-shirts too.
Any plans to re-release your previous collections/collaborations again?
Who knows? Maybe, since I’ve worked with friends before.
Do you have any projects coming up?
Expressions. Basically, it’s an art character based upon a figure called Mr Jones. A character who shows expressions on his face, whether it be angry, happy or confused. I want people to get to know his character. Mr Jones, Expressions, coming soon.
I’m also looking to work in more visuals for music videos, since I rap in music videos that my friend records. I’m trying to combine art and music, which is a whole different pathway. I just want a lot of art. Everywhere. Art Life Central is a collective I’m working on, also, a website consisting of art, music and life, everything.
What are your hopes for the future?
To get my art work noticed and known internationally. To have an established name, really. And to get the Street Fighter 2 game on a flat screen TV. 50 inch.
What three things can you not leave the house without?
My keys, wallet and notepad.
Who is your IDOL?
