Richard Chai became the creative director of outdoor brand Filson last week. The Richard Chai Love Fall 2012 runway was a showcase of the man’s gift for making coats.
From bombers to blazers, most looks were quiet in colour yet somehow conspicuous. Attention to form was what stood out. A series of Siberian-looking jackets, pulled in at the waist, were especially memorable in this respect.
Women’s coats were hung with large pockets and padding, structure reigning over colour.
When it came to shape, trousers were equally bold. The wide legs added movement to stiff and architectural jackets. Greys prevailed but some striking pinkish tones and stripes broke up the monochromatism. As did the stripes.
The new Filson creative director certainly proved his flair for outerwear with this fall collection.
